Woohoo! Project #1 = Complete

I am very proud to say I have completed my first project! I'm very happy with the results, and I love that the chair tops can be updated at any time with some new scrapbooking paper and a laminator!

Here's the before and after results:

On the home stretch now!

Almost finished! I have found some very cute scrapbooking paper from Spotlight which I've cut to size.

So I'm off to Officeworks this evening to have it laminated, trim to size, then add to chair. Voila!

Although Mia seems pretty content with the current version anyway :)

Halfway there!

I'm very proud to say I achieved my weekend task - painting the Latt table! Phew. Now just to decide how else to jazz it up. Here's the progress so far!

Before - with my little helper Mia!

Poor thing, all tuckered out. Flat-packs can be hard work!

Ready for painting on the balcony! I used a white high-gloss paint from  Bunnings. I also had help lining the white chair and table tops with masking tape so it was easier to paint over the edges. In total I did 3 coats of paint on the table and 2 on the chairs (because I got lazy to do a third coat!)

Mia looking pretty pleased with the (almost) final results - white & glossy, just how I hoped it would turn out!

Stay tuned for when I finally complete this project ... might give myself next weekend as the deadline to have it complete!

Getting started today!

Ok so it's Sunday today, better get cracking on the Latt table project! Pouring rain all day by the looks of it so no excuses, the plan is to at least get all the wooden parts of the table painted nice and white and glossy. Wish me luck!

Welcome to my blog!

Hello!

Welcome to my first post. As you've probably seen in my intro, I am Mia's Mummy (aka Anika). My gorgeous little gal is almost 15 months old, full of character and full of beans. I am loving being a mummy and have been slowly collating a laundry list of projects on my favourite site, Pinterest.

But, being the procrastinator I am, I know I probably won't get round to making all of the few hundred ideas I've come across. In fact, I haven't made any yet! I really want to make the time to do some of these projects (which include quiet books, reading nooks, bed canopies, tee-pees and hair clip holders to name a few), so I have decided to create this blog as a little way to document my progress, and to give myself the oomph I need to get off my butt (and off the computer!) and into crafting mode! And hopefully soon enough my little Mia will also be able to help out with some of the projects.

My first project, which I will attempt to at least start before the end of the weekend (procrastination setting in already!), will be jazzing up the Ikea Latt children's table & chair set. I have seen oodles of jazzed up Latt sets, the possibilities are endless!

This is what it would usually look like once put together:

And to be honest I haven't even decided exactly what I will do just yet, all I know is that I want to paint the wooden trim all white and glossy.

I have come across an awesome website called Ikea Hackers which is dedicated to people sharing their personalised and repurposed IKEA products. Check out the website and you'll see why its so hard to pick just one way to personalise the table set!

Here a few ideas I have come across on the Ikea Hackers website:

This fabulous Latt table set has added Ikea fabric under perspex for the table and chair tops. Love it!
Simple but looks like one of a kind.

Paint the table top with blackboard paint, brilliant!

One of my favourite "hacks"! I absolutely love this idea.
My little Miss Mia is probably a bit young for this at the moment (I can see her pulling everything out of the baskets!) but at least it will be an easy add-on for when she's a bit older.

And this idea (which was my original inspiration!) is from the Enjoyer of Grace blog, a fellow mummy blogger! I love the modern simplicity of it, I even went down to Bunnings at lunch and got myself a tin of white super gloss paint. And the mirrored circles on the back of the chairs are a very cute touch.

I better get cracking on my final ideas!
